Safety in Endoscopy On-Demand Educational Resource

The SGNA Practice Committee reviews and updates the “Safety in Endoscopy” position statement annually. The purpose of this document is to delineate guidelines for safety in the gastroenterology setting for patients and personnel. Divided into 4 main categories; General Safety, Procedural Safety, Patient Safety, and Personnel Safety, key topics such as Infection Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazardous Materials, Highly Infectious Diseases, Equipment Safety, Electrosurgical and Cautery Devices, Argon Plasma Coagulation, Pre-Procedure Patient Preparation, Emergency Patient Care, Procedural Complications, Ergonomics, and Workplace Violence are addressed. This critical resource resides on the SGNA eLearning Center and is one of SGNA’s most popular educational resources.

Evidence-based Practice Research Grant

As part of the Society’s initiative to bring evidence-based practice and research to SGNA members, SGNA is now offering small grants to support members who are conducting research, evidence-based practice or QI initiatives. The SGNA Research committee has identified several topic areas of opportunity, criteria to receive the grant and a thoughtful application process. SGNA expects those who receive the grant will share their findings at the SGNA Annual Course. This opportunity will ensure our members learn to translate evidence into practice and are better positioned to make clinical decisions that will positively affect patient care, improve patient outcomes and increase the knowledge base within the gastroenterology practice.
