Strong infection prevention practices protect patients, support staff, and help GI and endoscopy units meet accreditation standards. SGNA’s Infection Prevention Champions Program equips nurses and teams with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to lead meaningful change within their units.
Champions assess current practices, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement evidence based standards that support safe, consistent patient care.

What It Means to Be a Champion
Becoming an Infection Prevention Champion means committing to continuous improvement within your GI or endoscopy unit. Champions complete in depth unit risk assessments, apply survey standards from accrediting organizations, and build expertise in leading practices.
Champions also serve as trusted resources for infection prevention questions and collaborate with hospital infection prevention committees to review processes, products, education, and competencies.

Choose Your Program
Which option is right for you?
- A.I. Program ($275 member, $375 nonmember) guides participants to assess current practices and implement best practices through a self guided experience. Units may change their Champion after program completion. Enroll in the A.I. Program >
- A.I.M. Program ($325 member, $425 nonmember) includes the A.I. program plus a second phase focused on maintaining optimal infection prevention standards for long term success. The Champion must remain the same individual throughout the program. Enroll in the A.I.M. Program >

AI Champions Scholarship Opportunities
All SGNA members are eligible to apply for a scholarship to cover the cost of the AI Champions Program. Scholarships are awarded once per year and are supported by Boston Scientific.
Applications are currently closed and will reopen in April 2026.
