SEDASYS’ Impact on GI Nursing

SEDASYS' Impact on GI Nursing

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently granted premarket approval for the SEDASYS System. The SEDASYS System is the first computer-assisted personalized sedation (CAPS) system. What does this mean for GI nursing professionals? It largely depends where you live.

As you know, the scope of practice for nursing is outlined on a state-by-state basis. Based on your state’s regulations, SEDASYS could have a major impact on your practice. SGNA encourages you to check your state’s regulations for more information about how this development affects you.
SGNA is dedicated to providing its members, and the GI nursing community as a whole, with current and credible practice documents that address issues directly affecting GI nursing. SGNA's most current position statement regarding Sedation is here: Use of Sedation and Analgesia in the Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Setting.
