Recorded at the SGNA 35th Annual Course
Steatosis is fatty liver. Fatty liver disease (non- alcoholic fatty liver or NASH) is a build up of fat in the liver cells. This can be caused by obesity, diabetes, poor nutrition, or alcohol consumption. Having hepatitis C and fatty liver can increase liver damage and make it more difficult to treat HCV. Increased liver damage, including fibrosis leading to cirrhosis, will put an individual at higher risk for liver cancer. This course discusses what is fat and obesity, how fat causes liver damage, what are the stages of liver damage or scarring, as well as medical management versus other management before and during HCV treatment.
