Evidence-based Research and Practice Education

Evidence-based Research and Practice education is a strategic initiative for SGNA. The goal is that SGNA will translate evidence into practice and provide training for nurses who will advance gastroenterology and endoscopy nursing through the development of evidence-based research and practice. The two programs that will look to accomplish this goal are the Fellowship and Scholars Programs.

SGNA Nurse Fellowship Program

The purpose of the SGNA Nurse Fellowship Program is to educate and train GI/endoscopy nurses on evidence-based research that can then be applied to their day-to-day practice.

Eight to 10 nurse fellows will be selected for the inaugural 2012 class for a commitment of three years. Participants will receive in-person training using curriculum under development by SGNA and the TCU Center for Evidence-based Practice and Research: A Collaborating Center of the Joanna Briggs Institute.

SGNA will fund all training and related expenses for the nurse fellows.

Only SGNA Members are eligible to apply. The application for the 2012 class of fellow was due October 31, 2011, and the application period is now closed. The inaugural nurse fellows class will be announced in December 2011.

SGNA Scholars Program

The purpose of the SGNA Scholars program is to educate and train appropriately prepared GI/endoscopy nurses in order to build a repository of research applicable to the GI/endoscopy setting.

Eight scholars will be selected for the inaugural 2012 class for a commitment of three years. Scholars will receive in-person systematic review training utilizing the TCU Center for Evidence-based Practice and Research: A Collaborating Center of the Joanna Briggs Institute.

SGNA will fund all training and related expenses for the scholars.

SGNA will be formally inviting select individuals to participate in the Scholars Program. The inaugural scholars class will be announced in December 2011.
